The DeKalb Municipal Band invites the community to another great evening of music at 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, at the Dee Palmer Band Shell in Hopkins Park, 1403 Sycamore Road in DeKalb. The band is under the direction of Kirk Lundbeck.
The featured vocalist for the evening is Terri Crain Goodman. She will perform “It’s a Grand Night for Singing,” “Home” and “On a Wonderful Day Like Today.”
A Sycamore native, soprano Terri Crain Goodman is a graduate of Sycamore High School and Northern Illinois University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in both music and vocal music education.á
Goodmanátaught choir and general music in the Mt. Morris, Oregon and Sycamore school districts for 26 years. An accomplished pianist, she also has served as anáaccompanist andámusical theater camp instructor. She is a private voice instructor and serves asátheáparade chair for theáSycamore Pumpkin Festival committee.
She is active in area theater, having both directed and held starring roles in numerous plays and musicals over the past 40 years. She is currently appearing as Tanya in the Summer Place Theatre production of “Mamma Mia” in Naperville through Aug. 4.
Roger Ackert, the band’s principal alto saxophone, is the featured instrumental soloist for the evening. He will perform a selection that he composed, “Our Heritage.”
Other music on the program includes “650 East March,” “Light Cavalry,” “Golden Gate,” “Les Miserables,” “Barnum and Bailey’s Favorites,” “Holiday for Winds,” “Carnaval in Sao Paulo,” “At a Dixieland Jazz Funeral,” “Big Band Signatures” and “The Footlifter.”
Admission to the concert is free; donations to “Help the Band Play On” will be accepted. Bench seating is available or bring a lawn chair or blanket.
