Jacob Hanson, a member of Boy Scout Troop 4, chartered at First United Methodist Church in DeKalb, recently was awarded the Eagle rank, the highest rank achievable in Boy Scouts. He is the son of Korry and Jessica Hanson of DeKalb.
Hanson started in Scouting with Cub Scout Pack 104 and completed his Webelos I and II in 2012, earning his Arrow of Light award.
He continued his trail to Eagle serving as patrol leader, scribe, assistant patrol leader and junior assistant scoutmaster. He enjoyed numerous campouts, troop activities and service projects. He attended Camp Lowden and worked there as an Eagle Nest instructor for one summer. He earned 32 merit badges.
Hanson’s Eagle project benefited the Glidden Homestead in DeKalb. He built four convertible picnic table/benches. He held his formal Eagle ceremony at the Glidden Homestead.
Hanson is a recent graduate of DeKalb High School and is enrolled in the nursing program at Kishwaukee College.
Boy Scout Troop 4 meets on at 7 p.m. Tuesdays at First United Methodist Church, 321 Oak St., in DeKalb.
