DeKALB – The annual Heroes and Helpers event, organized by the DeKalb Police Benevolent & Protective Association and DeKalb Target, will take place Dec. 6.

This event helps children – the heroes – in special situations have a good holiday season. Each child is partnered with a DeKalb police officer – the helper – and will choose $50 to $100 worth of gifts for themselves and members of their family.

COVID-19 restrictions will be respected and social distancing will be practiced, according to a news release.

All children participating in the event are either DeKalb residents or students of DeKalb School District 428. They are nominated by the school district or another local agency.

Donations can be made payable to the DeKalb Police Benevolent & Protective Association and delivered or mailed before Nov. 24 to the DeKalb Police Department, Attn. Heroes and Helpers, 700 W. Lincoln Highway, DeKalb, IL 60115.
