Learn about the 'Piano Man' at virtual event

DeKALB – Though Billy Joel has not released a new rock album in more than 27 years, he remains one of the world’s most popular live performers.

Gary Wenstrup will use performance and interview video clips to trace the arc of Joel’s career during a virtual event hosted by the DeKalb Public Library. The event will take place at 2 p.m. Oct. 17.

The program will cover Joel's humble beginnings in Hicksville, New Jersey, and his slow rise to fame; his long string of hits including “Just The Way You Are” and ”Uptown Girl;” his love life including his marriage to supermodel Christie Brinkley; and his current status as one of the world’s most successful touring acts.

Wenstrup is an adjunct professor at the College of DuPage/CE teaching a number of pop music history classes.
