SYCAMORE – Although this year’s Sycamore Pumpkin Festival was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Sycamore Lions Club will still host a decorated pumpkin contest.
The event will be modified to minimize contact, and it will follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Illinois State Department of Health’s recommendations for the pandemic, according to a news release.
The event will be Oct. 21-25 at the Sycamore Park on Airport Road. The display area will be located by the Lions and Good Tymes shelters in the park.
Registration this year will be done online to eliminate person-to-person contact. A link to the online registration forms may be found on the Sycamore Lions Club’s website www.sycamorelions.org or Facebook page.
There will not be registration forms at the park and entry numbers will not be assigned. During online registration, a unique ID will be assigned, which must be attached to each entry. Participants will be required to label their display using waterproof markers and place it in a sealed sandwich bag attached to the display.
A list of the rules and conditions for participating must be accepted during registration to participate in this year’s event.
There will be two days for set-up to allow for social distancing and viewing will be limited to drive-by observing from vehicles during park hours, dawn to dusk. Visitors will not be allowed to exit their vehicle during the drive-by viewing periods.
Pumpkin display set-up will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 21 and Oct. 22, with viewing Oct. 23 through 4 p.m. Oct. 25. Judging of the pumpkins will be Oct. 23.
Pumpkins may be collected from 4 p.m. Oct. 25 through 4 p.m. Oct. 26. Any items remaining after collection time will be disposed of.
The Sycamore Lions Club will videotape the display and post a link on their website and Facebook pages.
