DAR honors history teacher

Jim Spring was selected the Outstanding American History Teacher of the Year by the Illinois State Organization of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. He was nominated by the Gen. John Stark Chapter in Sycamore. Spring has been a history teacher for 17 years in the Leland School District. The criteria for the award includes an incisive knowledge of American history that the teacher readily shares with his students; the teacher demonstrates a spirit of patriotism and loyal support of the country and constitutional government; and the teacher has the ability to relate history to modern life and events. Spring was recently presented a certificate, a lapel pin and a monetary award from State Historian Marria Blinn.
