A total of $11,200 in scholarships has been awarded by the Lorene Brown Scholarship Foundation for the 2020-21 academic school year. The scholarship fund is administered by First Midwest Bank.
Scholarships are available for graduates of Genoa-Kingston High School attending Northern Illinois University or the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Those receiving scholarships for the 2020-2021 school year are: Alexis Garza, Morgan Siers, Kasey Pennington, Jackson Bouque and Jin Wen Lin.
The foundation was created by Lorene Brown, a lifelong resident of Genoa. Brown, who died in November 1995, was a 1920 graduate of the University of Illinois. Since its inception in 1993, the foundation has awarded a total of $311,100 in scholarships.
