DeKalb County Community Foundation awards $89,352 in support of music education

SYCAMORE – The DeKalb County Community Foundation reports that $89,352 in spring Farny R. Wurlitzer Foundation Fund Grants benefited a total of 28 nonprofits and community organizations across the Chicago area for music education.

“Our board of advisers recognize that this is a very unusual grant cycle,” George Buck, advisory committee chairman for the Wurlitzer Foundation Fund, said in a news release. “We realize that due to COVID-19, many of our grant recipients are unable to function normally at this time. In this cycle we granted a great deal of general operating support to aid in sustainability for these organizations.”

The Farny R. Wurlitzer Foundation Fund Grant is one of several grant-making programs at the DeKalb County Community Foundation. Funding is possible through a donor-advised fund established by the Farny R. Wurlitzer Foundation in 2012.

Grant applications are due by midnight on March 1 and Sept. 1 of each year. Funding support is determined by criteria met and the amount requested. Preference to 501(c)(3) organizations is given.
