DeKALB – Longtime Kishwaukee United Way Executive Director Dawn Littlefield is departing the organization after 25 years, she announced last week.

Littlefield said her last day with United Way will be Oct. 25, and she will help transition the nonprofit agency into new leadership before she does.

“Being the director of such a valuable organization and having the privilege of serving with hundreds of nonprofit stakeholders, corporate executives, fellow leaders and committed donors has been the pleasure of a lifetime,” Littlefield said in an email.

She’s headed up north, she said, as her husband’s new job in Minnesota will pave the way for a new adventure in a different state.

“My husband secured employment in Minnesota last August, and has been juggling duties there, alongside family obligations here, for nearly a year. As we finalize preparations to send our son Chase off to college this fall, we will be ready to make our move,” she said. I only hope to find such a caring, and committed community, as well as partners like you, in the next phase of my career.”

Beginning Oct. 15, United Way staff member Gretchen Sprinkle will be the go-to for communications as the agency works to finalize formal staff replacements, Littlefield said.

“I will miss you all, but I have no doubt that the programs and service we have built over the years will grow and thrive as we continue our core mission of serving those in need in our local communities.”
