SYCAMORE – The 2020 Fizz Ehrler Memorial Turning Back Time Car Show has been canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The 21st annual event was scheduled to be held July 26, but has been rescheduled for next year on July 25, 2021.
The club made the announcement cancelling this year’s event via a Facebook post.
The post stated that planning for the car show has been difficult “with the coronavirus pandemic and all the limitations imposed by shelter-in-place orders, business closings, restrictions on face-to-face meetings and the subsequent economic impact.”
“After weeks of thought, idea sharing and discussion of alternative event ideas, the club has found it impossible to stay within even Phase 4 guidelines of limiting gatherings to 50 persons or less,” the post states. “In addition, the economic impact on the majority of sponsors of the event, makes it difficult for sponsors to participate financially this year as well. While there are a few who are ready, willing and excited to join us this year, with only a limited partial sponsor support, the means to provide the revenue needed for awards, communications and even basic human services cannot be guaranteed.”
The car show, one of DeKalb County’s largest events, brings more than 1,000 cars and motorcycles and about 10,000 spectators to downtown Sycamore.
The show has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local nonprofit groups, including veterans’ assistance groups, cancer research, Salvation Army food banks, the WLBK Freezing for Food campaign, Sycamore School District projects and more.
