DeKALB – Most children in DeKalb County are not ready for kindergarten, according to the DeKalb County Regional Office of Education, which will host a kindergarten readiness forum Jan. 30.

The forum will include light refreshments and is set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30 at the DeKalb County Community Outreach Building's Blank Slate Room, 2500 N. Annie Glidden Road.

If interested, event organizers ask that you RSVP at www.dekalbroe.org/kindergarten-readiness-community-forum. While the event is free, space is limited to 44 seats.

The Kindergarten Readiness Community Forum is an international forum for community members wanting to learn more about what it means for their child to be ready to take on the academic, social and emotional components of kindergarten, according to the event page.

The Kindergarten Individual Development Survey assessment and data for DeKalb County will be a focus of discussion, too.

Representatives from the McCormick Foundation and the Illinois State Board of Education will also be on hand to field questions from the audience.
