SYCAMORE – The community is invited to tap their toes to the music of the talented Jazz in Progress at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Sycamore United Methodist. This is the second time the church has hosted the 18-piece ensemble formed in 2012.
What began as a friendly email between local musicians has branched into not only a music group, but also a charitable and educational organization with a mission to advance the appreciation, performance and history of jazz music and its related genres. Director Dave Lehman chooses a wide variety of music, including classic swing and big band as well as funk and more modern pieces.
The concert is part of the Jessie Viner Concert Series at SUMC. Jessie was a long-time member who left a generous bequest to the church and music program. There will be a free-will offering at the end of the concert to help support musical causes in the community, including scholarships.
The church is located at 160 Johnson Ave. in Sycamore. For information, call the church office at 815-895-9113 or visit www.sycamoreumc.org.
