Northern Rehab to take part in Get Active Week

Northern Rehab Physical Therapy Specialists is partnering with Live Healthy DeKalb County’s inaugural Get ActiveWeek.

During the week of May 17-26, health and wellness organizations throughout DeKalb County will offer activities in a collective effort to raise awareness about resources available in the community. Being active is critical to a person's health and happiness as well as the overall well-being of the community. As a partner in Get Active Week, Northern Rehab will offer four free events:

• Runners Enhancement & Injury Prevention, 6:30 p.m. May 22, 540 E. Main St., Genoa

This presentation led by Melissa Payne Wagne, will include interactive dynamic warm-ups, running strategies for the beginner to expert runners, learn or review proper self foam rolling techniques (foam rollers will be provided), and a short presentation on common injuries and prevention. • Body Mechanics: Gardening & Computer Ergonomics, 5:30 p.m. May 22, 523 E. Railroad St., Sandwich

This interactive presentation led by Andrea Carter will learn the proper way to lift and carry items, sit and exercises to do at a computer desk to minimize stiffness, pain and injury. Gardening ergonomics also will be discussed. Stations will be set up to try during the presentation. For information, call 815-786-1888.

• Golf Enhancement & Injury Prevention, 7 p.m. May 23, 3266 Sycamore Road, DeKalb

Come dressed to move and bring a club to this event led by Aaron Nevdal, which will include a short presentation followed by interactive warm-ups, tips to help improve your game and injury prevention. For information, call 815-756-8524.

• Strength & Stability Class Trial, 1 to 2 p.m. May 21 and May 23, 3266 Sycamore Road, DeKalb

Enjoy a free trial at one of the clinic's Strength & Stability classes, which aim to help improve balance, coordination, strength, flexibility and overall well-being. Classes include various activities and exercises in a circuit-style environment. Individuals must be comfortable exercising in a group setting and be able to stand and move independently without a cane or walker. There are a limited number of spots in each class – the first five people to call and register will receive a free trial class; call 815-756-8524.
