Three Sycamore residents, one DeKalb resident win pie-eating contests

SYCAMORE – Sycamore Kiwanis Club officials have announced the winners for this year’s Sycamore Pumpkin Fest pie-eating contest.

In the ages 5 and younger category, Abigail McCarthy of DeKalb won the contest. Ella Atwell of Sycamore won the ages 6 to 10 category, Madelyn Lathrop of Sycamore won the ages 11 to 15 category and Jim Amberg of Sycamore won the ages 16 and older category.

Competitors gathered on the DeKalb County Courthouse lawn to eat pieces of pie to win a monetary prize. There were 45 children and adults in the pumpkin pie eating contest this year, some that start as young as three years old and many of whom come back every year to defend their titles.

The pumpkin pies were purchased at Jewel in Sycamore. Sycamore High School Key Club members also helped out with the contest.

The following is a list of winners that placed for each category in this year’s contest:

Ages 5 and younger

First place: Abigail McCarthy of DeKalb

Second place: Allie Vigins of Esmond

Third place: Brantley Robinson of DeKalb

Fourth place: Wyatt Erd of Elburn

Ages 6 to 10

First place: Ella Atwell of Sycamore

Second place: Austin Berringer of Sycamore

Third place: Alexis Rothenbach of Sycamore

Fourth place: Ella Russell of Hampshire

Ages 11 to 15

First place: Madelyn Lathrop of Sycamore

Second place: Ty Devito of Sycamore

Third place: Maxine Lathrop of Sycamore

Fourth place: Michael Korpal of Manhattan

Ages 16 and older

First place :  Jim Amberg of Sycamore

Second place: David Russell of Hampshire

Third place: Erik Smith of Hales Corner, Wisconsin

Fourth place: Michael Devito of Sycamore
