DeKALB – The DeKalb Public Library will offer free cooking classes given by professional chef Michael Niksic on Saturday.
First, teens can get a glimpse into history and enjoy some savory fare as Niksic presents “Medieval Meals” from 11 a.m. to noon. This program will feature a large detailed castle display. Tasting portions will be substantial in size and pictures are welcome. The class is intended for ages 10 to 18.
Next, adults are invited to spend an hour learning the many truths about healthier eating habits from 2 to 3 p.m. Samples from Niksic’s first e-book, “Hearty & Healthy Polish Cooking” will be served. This program will be fun, casual and informative. Niksic also will share more than a few of the funny situations he found himself in during the course of his career.
Register for either class now at dkpl.org as space is limited.
Niksic began his cooking career in 1976 and stamped his name in Chicago’s cuisine when he opened La Grillade, the first Mesquite grilling fine dining restaurant in the area. He also made cooking impressions at Periwinkle’s Café, Montana Street Café, Ciel Bleu and the Northside Café. He has opened, or helped to open, more than 22 restaurants of various cuisine and themes.
Niksic has been conducting cooking classes and programs for the past 14 years. He was presented with a lifetime achievement award in 2000 and is an accomplished chef in multiple cuisines. He has made appearances at the Great American Cooking Expo, Chicago Flower & Garden Show, Taste of Chicago and Taste of Polonia.
