Popular culture celebrated at the library

DeKALB – Are you a lover of all things related to pop culture? TV addict? Movie aficionado? Comic book collector?

Community members are invited to dress up in their cosplay best and visit the DeKalb Public Library from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday for the inaugural Pop-Con: a celebration of pop culture. There will be activities, crafts and games for children, teens and adults.

Kids can take part in the Superhero Training Academy or have fun fixing their dolls’ boo-boos, while teens and adults can belt out songs from "Hamilton" or talk to graphic novel authors. Those who dress up, can participate in a costume parade and contest. There also will be trivia contests held throughout the day for all age levels.

A Light Sabers maker program will be held from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. and 2:30 to 3 p.m. Star Wars enthusiasts can craft their own light saber in the Bilder Family Meeing Room.

From noon to 2 p.m., a Minecraft Tournament sponsored by the Gaming Goat will be held in the Teen Room. It is intended for ages 11 to 17.

The day will conclude with a session about the first female doctor in "Doctor Who" with Paul Booth, an associate professor of Media and Cinema Studies at DePaul University.
