DeKALB – The DeKalb Area Retirement Center – Oak Crest residents and staff celebrated National Volunteer Week by recognizing their many volunteers with a dessert buffet. The theme for the evening was “Volunteers – Music to Our Ears.” A program of bluegrass and gospel music was performed by Truman’s Ridge.
DeKALB – The 2013 winner of the Kishwaukee Community Hospital Auxiliary’s Connie Bressler Spirit Award is Marion Baars, a true ambassador for the hospital and its entire staff.
DeKALB – DeKalb Mayor John Rey and Fifth Ward Alderman Ronald Naylor traveled to Springfield on May 14 to defend their position on several issues threatening municipalities, including the instability of the local government distributive fund and rising pension costs.
DeKALB – Twelve sixth graders from Clinton Rosette Middle School in DeKalb were recognized and awarded certificates and ribbons from the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Alpha Sigma Chapter.
DeKALB – Jacob McArtor recently received the Eagle Award, the highest award the Boy Scouts of America presents, as a member of Boy Scout Troop 33, sponsored by First Lutheran Church in DeKalb.
SYCAMORE – Thomas Franks has been appointed the new assistant principal of Sycamore Middle School. Franks’ appointment was confirmed at the May 14 meeting of the Dist. 427 board of education.
DeKALB – Three nurses received top honors at the KishHealth System Employee Recognition Banquet May 13.

DeKALB – Barb City Manor Inc., the governing board of Barb City Manor Retirement Home in DeKalb, recently hosted its annual Volunteer Thank You Dinner to honor all the members of FRIENDS of Barb City Manor. Members of the board served volunteers and their guests a dinner to show appreciation for the tireless efforts of FRIENDS on behalf of the residents.
