DeKALB – The DeKalb Education Foundation recently announced its gift of $10,000 to DeKalb School District 428, as part of its twice-yearly gifting season.

According to Sheryl Nakonechny of the foundation, the grant money will go to flexible seating for elementary school students, ukuleles for music programs, books for school libraries and equipment for the automotive department at DeKalb High School.

DEF was established in 1987 to support classrooms beyond what the district can fund, according to Nakonechny.

A foundation grant committee selects the recipients each year.
