The Genoa Community Women’s Club is accepting college scholarship applications from any 2019 Genoa-Kingston High School graduate intending to further their education through university, community college or trade school.
Completed applications, available on the GKHS student website, must be submitted to the guidance office by April 5. The recipients will be notified at the Senior Awards Night in May.
Four graduates will be selected based on their volunteer involvement in the Genoa and Kingston communities as well as their academic record and overall character. The $2,000 scholarship must be used to defray the cost of tuition, room and board, textbooks or class fees. All monies are paid directly to the recipients’ school.
Over the past 11 years, the club has awarded 42 graduating seniors with more than $56,000 in scholarships. Scholarships are funded with the proceeds from the annual Wonderful World of Christmas craft show. This year, GCWC was able to increase the amount thanks to a generous donation from 1971 GKHS grad and GCWC scholarship recipient Jill Braser.
The GCWC is a women’s service club organized in 1963 to serve the needs of the community. All women from the Genoa, Kingston and the surrounding area are welcome to join. Meetings are at 6:30 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of the month September through June at Resource Bank in Genoa.
