DeKALB – Residents wishing to know whether the state of Illinois is holding unclaimed funds owed to them are invited to an ICash event March 16 at the DeKalb Senior Center.
The event at the senior center, 330 Grove St., will be from 10 a.m. to noon, and is hosted by state Rep. Jeff Keicher, R-Sycamore.
Seniors wishing to claim lost funds are especially encouraged to attend. Property could be returned to the original owners or their heirs at no cost if proper identification is provided.
To reclaim property, owners must complete and sign a claim form, which will be provided to them at the event. They also must bring a copy of a photo identification card and social security number, at minimum.
According to the release, common types of unclaimed property include checking and savings accounts, uncashed wage and payroll checks, uncashed stock dividends and stock certificates. They also include insurance payments, utility deposits, customer deposits, accounts payable, credit balances, refund checks, money orders, traveler's checks, mineral proceeds, court deposits, uncashed death benefit checks and life insurance proceeds.
ICash is a program administered by the office of Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs. Staff from Frerichs office will be available during the event to address questions and concerns.
