MALTA – Kishwaukee College’s director of marketing and public relations is putting on another hat.
Kayte Hamel, 37, of Sycamore, has been named executive director of college relations, which includes her serving as executive director of the Kishwaukee College Foundation.
“I’ve obviously always had an affinity for Kish,” said Hamel, who is an alumna of the college.
She’ll make $97,325, a hike from her previous $90,000 salary. According to the agenda for Tuesday night's board meeting, when Hamel's promotion was approved, the contract runs from Jan. 23 through June 30.
Hamel said when Bill Nicklas, city manager of DeKalb, left his post as executive director of the foundation and special assistant to college President Laurie Borowicz, it created an opportunity to re-rack leadership.
In her new role, Hamel will provide strategic leadership for the foundation, seek new and innovative ways to support the foundation and college initiatives, and work alongside Borowicz and the board of directors to secure funding and support, according to a news release. Fundraising, scholarship development, annual campaigns, alumni development and special events are among the long-term foundation goals Hamel will focus on, the release said.
Hamel said the move will create “synergy” between the college and its foundation.
“It’s a move I think a lot of community colleges are making,” she said.
She added that Jessica Anderson, who became the college’s assistant marketing director in January 2018, has made the move easier.
“She’s done a fantastic job,” Hamel said.
Jamie Craven, superintendent of DeKalb School District 428 and president of the Kish foundation’s board of directors, said Hamel’s work for the foundation has already begun.
“She has been a valued employee at Kishwaukee College and has been an integral part of the Foundation serving in various capacities,” Craven said in the release.
