Sam Frankovich, a member of Boy Scout Troop 2810, chartered at Salem Lutheran Church in Sycamore, recently was awarded Eagle, the highest rank achievable in Scouting. He is the son of Chris and Debi Frankovich of Decatur, formerly of Sycamore.

Frankovich began his Scouting journey in first grade with Cub Scout Pack 822, chartered out of South Prairie Elementary School in Sycamore. He earned all five Cub Scout ranks and the Arrow of Light. He crossed over to Troop 2810 in 2013.

He continued his trail to Eagle with Troop 2810 serving as webmaster, patrol leader and chaplain’s aide. He enjoyed attending many campouts and activities and Canyon Camp Summer Camp. He attended the 2017 National Jamboree in West Virginia.

Frankovich has earned 31 merit badges with hiking being his favorite. For his Eagle project, he built a storage shed for Cornerstone Christian Academy in Sycamore. He arranged for a concrete floor to be poured and the materials needed to create the barnlike building. After the concrete foundation was laid and set, the 12-by-20-foot shed was built with rafters and with siding on the outside. Now the school has a secure place to store their sports equipment, extra chairs and riding mower.

Frankovich is a junior at Decatur Christian School. He previously attended Cornerstone Christian Academy in Sycamore, where he played varsity basketball. He volunteered for two years at Kishwaukee Hospital and is active in his church’s youth group. He plans to go to college and get a degree in either theater design or business management and hopes to become an adult leader in a troop in the future.
