Resource Bank N.A. was awarded an Honorable Mention for Adaptive Reuse/Preservation/Restoration Design by the Prairie Chapter of the American Institute of Architects at their AIA Prairie Design Awards in November.

The award was for the preservation and restoration of the Sycamore Townsend Garage, located at 625 N. Main St. in Sycamore. The 1906 granite boulder structure now houses the Sycamore branch of Resource Bank, a community bank with a reputation for reusing historic structures for local branches.

The Townsend Garage was originally part of the Frederick B. Townsend estate. When looking for a location for their new branch, Resource considered not only the best location, but how they could continue to be good stewards for the community. Original materials were restored where possible, and the addition and drive-up canopy use similar design and materials from the era.

Using historic photos of the building’s time as a fuel and service station, antique restored gas pumps were replaced on the exterior to enhance the detailed frontage.
