The 23rd annual Christmas Tree Walk and Open House at the DeKalb Area Retirement Center – Oak Crest is scheduled from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The home will be decorated with a “Christmas Traditions – Then and Now” theme.

Mark your calendar and invite family and friends for an afternoon of viewing 42 beautiful trees and decorations, listening to music of the season and enjoying a festive dessert buffet.

The DeKalb High School Madrigal Singers will begin singing at 1:30 p.m. in the Vista Room followed by the Crosswinds Flute Choir and the Saxophone Quartet with Dick Cole and Friends. Other music will be enjoyed throughout the home.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will greet all ages as they visit the “North Pole”. An operational model train display will be enjoyed by guests as they “Travel the USA”. Oak Crest will join in the Illinois Bicentennial Celebration with a tree in recognition of this big event.

“Silent Night” was written in 1818. Look for this special tree with vintage hankie angels adorning the tree and other ornaments. Also, don’t miss the “Butterfly Tree”.

Goodies and music can be enjoyed in the Terrace Dining Room when viewing two beautiful trees that will take visitors back in time.

As you view the many trees, look for all the handmade ornaments. Nearly every tree has handmade ornaments made by community and resident volunteers.

Valet parking for those needing assistance will be available at Door 4 and shuttle service from Resource Bank will start at 12:30 p.m.

Oak Crest is located at 2944 Greenwood Drive in DeKalb.
