DeKalb man wins songwriting awards

Gary Mullis of DeKalb recently won awards for the three songs he entered in the Northwest Alabama Music Publishing Company's song contest.

Mullis won first place love song for "Joyce Can I Have This Dance," first place recitation for "Tribute to Loretta Lynn," and second place traditional country song for "Driving Down Back Country Roads."

He also won first place sponsorship, a gold record and $100 cash.

Singer, songwriter and radio host Kim Glover of Lexington, Alabama, will record Mullis' song "Tribute to Loretta Lynn." The CD recording will be distributed to radio stations in the U.S. and overseas.

Mullis won an all-expense paid trip to Columbia, Tennessee, to eat breakfast at Marcy Jo's Mealhouse and Bakery, featured on the "Joey + Rory Show" on RFD-TV. He also visited near the barn where the show was filmed.
