DeKALB – Are you a TV addict? Movie aficionado? Comic book collector? The DeKalb Public Library will hold its second annual Pop-Con: a celebration of pop culture from 10 a.m. tp 2 p.m. Saturday.
In honor of the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s "Frankenstein," the celebration will include all things gothic and creepy. There will be sessions for children, teens and adults.
Visitor can go through the top secret escape room in the library basement, learn how to do creepy makeup for Halloween, meet animals from Tails Humane Society and make ghost pops and zombie pops to take home.
Kids can meet Batgirl and Hermione before participating in monster training or taking a trip through the forbidden forest outside of Hogwarts. Geometric monsters are waiting to be created at the tables near the windows in the Youth Department and coloring pictures also will be available.
There will be monster training between 10 a.m. and noon and games such as pin the ghost on the haunted house.
At 11 a.m. in the Yusanas Room, Incredible Bats will visit and teach attendees about Egyptian fruit bats and African straw-colored bats. The bats will be available for viewing in the lobby before and after the program.
Harry Potter fans can show off their knowledge and daring by entering the Forbidden Forest to find the various Horcrux. Afterward, they can make a Flying Key. Harry Potter events will be held between 12:30 and 2 p.m.
All events are free. Brochures detailing all activities are available at any of the library’s service desks.
