Kish College schedules community events

MALTA – Kishwaukee College will host the following community events.

Old North Grove One-Room Schoolhouse Tour

Built in 1878 by the Swedish immigrants who settled in the area, the North Grove School provided instruction to the local, rural children in Swedish until the 1920s. Today, the North Grove School Association preserves the one-room school which houses original desks, floor, walls, leaded-glass windows and furnishings from the period. Listen to stories about attending the school and participate in interactive lessons that were used during that bygone era.

The tour will be Friday, Oct. 12. The van leaves Blain's Farm & Fleet parking lot in Sycamore at 10:45 a.m. and returns at 1 pm. Cost is $25, which includes transportation and boxed lunch.

Harvest Moon Paint-a-Scape Workshop

Bring out the artist in you at this easy-to-follow painting workshop. Teresa Petry, owner of The Artists’ Garden, and Sara Hall, local artist, will guide you step by step through the process to create a 20-by-20-inch masterpiece that captures the rural landscape of our community.

The workshop will be from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Historic Malta Town Hall, 127 N. Third St. in Malta. Cost is $48 and includes supplies.

Pumpkin Fest Floral Arranging Workshop

Let your creativity blossom and create fresh cut arrangements of beautiful flowers and foliage. Kish College’s floral instructor Janet Gallagher will demonstrate and assist you in the process of constructing an impressive fall piece that you can make, take and put on display.

The workshop will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at Kishwaukee College. Cost is $56, which includes supplies.
