Wooden Box Theater, a local performance group, will present “Tu Voz es Una Melodía,” an evening of theatrical performances, belly dancers, guest hosts and live music, at 5 p.m. Sunday at Rosita’s Mexican Restaurant in DeKalb. The event is the group’s 2018 season finale.
“Tu Voz es Una Melodía” will be co-hosted by Mandy Lynn, Alyssa Hoving and Daniel Sherrill and will feature live music by Shelbie Jo, Bill Leighly, Jaysen Curran, Daerielle Amber, Joel La Vaughn, Mia Lynell (Breona Austin), and a special debut set by David Manchen. Headliner Shelbie Jo will be making her return to the group for her first performance with Wooden Box Theater since the summer of 2011.
Wooden Box Theater event co-writer Ruth Keran will perform event-inspired belly dances during the presentation. Keran began appearing with the group in May, and is slated to remain with them full-time in 2019. Attendees also will get the chance to meet Tessa Hadley, owner and esthetician at the recently opened Kalon Beauty Bar in downtown DeKalb.
“Tu Voz es Una Melodía” will pay homage to the 2007 song "Te Queiro" by DJ Flex and Belinda in music, performance, layout and structure. The event takes its name from one of the song's lyrics, and will be featured during the dance segments.
The group is excited to perform at Rosita's Mexican Restaurant.
"Our entire current lineup felt honored to be given this opportunity, considering the high regard that Rosita's is held in," Sherill said in a news release. "It has been a crown jewel in downtown DeKalb for many years, and we hope to present a memorable night filled with music, performance and a keepsake storyline. It will be the highlight of our performance year."
