Summer food program begins 24th year in DeKalb County

DeKALB – The Summer Food Service Program, which has provided free meals for youth under 18 and adults over 18 enrolled in a school program for the disabled, has begun and will carry on through mid-August.

The Voluntary Action Center-sponsored program will operate at Littlejohn Elementary School, 1121 School Street, until July 27; Hopkins Park Shelter, 1403 Sycamore Road, from July 30 to Aug. 10; University Village Apartments, 722 N. Annie Glidden Road, until Aug. 3; Kishwaukee YMCA, 2500 W. Bethany Road, until Aug. 14; Camp Maple Leaf, 1403 Sycamore Road, for enrolled campers from June 11 to July 26 except on Fridays; NIU Anderson Hall, 520 Garden St., from June 23 to Aug. 2 except on Fridays and Cortland Library, 63 S. Somonauk Road on Tuesdays through Aug. 9

This year, the Voluntary Action Center has forged a new partnership with DeKalb District 428. Food preparation will now be performed in the Huntley Middle School kitchen over the summer. Call 815-758-3932 with questions.
