G-K students place in Poppy Poster contest

The Genoa-Kingston Middle School students once again participated in the American Legion Auxiliary Poppy Poster Contest. Students were invited to generate a poster depicting the meaning of Memorial Day. Janet Bacon, president of Genoa's American Legion Auxiliary has worked closely with GKMS teacher Carol Hencken to encourage students to enter the contest. The eighth-grade winner was Bryanna Sonntag. The seventh-grade winners were Erwin Mercado, first place; Ruby Mulvaney, second; Amina Music, third; and Avery Neff, honorable mention. The sixth-grade winners were Hannah Lara,, first; Ellen Lange, second; Taylor Fry, third; and Abbie Andrews, honorable mention. Bacon awarded cash prizes to the winners.
