Prisma String Quartet, a string quartet-in-residence, has formed at Westminster Presbyterian Church in DeKalb for worship services and outreach concerts.

The quartet consists of violinists Victor Ryzhov and Elle Baker, violist Abe Baker and cellist Thomas Cappaert. The group will perform at four worship services a year as well as regular chamber concerts at the church.

The four musicians’ association through the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra in DeKalb and their love of chamber music brought them together to form this string quartet. The group’s name, “Prisma,” means “prism” in Spanish. The Prisma members enjoy playing music of several different styles such as tango, ragtime, blues and classical. As a prism defracts light into many colors, the Prisma Quartet demonstrates that the sounds of a quartet may similarly break into many different styles.

The new quartet will debut playing the Andante con Moto for Quartet in D minor by Schubert at the 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Feb. 18.

Westminster Presbyterian Church is located at 830 N. Annie Glidden Road in DeKalb. Call 815-756-2905 for more information.
