KC Adult Ed free classes open enrollment in February

Kishwaukee College Adult Education department’s classes for High School Equivalency preparation and English as a Second Language will hold an open enrollment for students on select dates during the first two weeks of February. Students should register at the class sites in the local communities. All classes are offered free of charge to participants.

High School Equivalency classes offer students an opportunity to prepare for the high school equivalency exam. There are also HSE classes conducted in Spanish being offered. The ESL classes help adults with limited English proficiency learn the basics of speaking, listening, reading and writing with practical applications to daily life.

HSE classes taught in English are offered in DeKalb at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 830 N. Annie Glidden (use the rear entrance). A class that focuses on math and science meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 to 11:15 a.m. Enrollment for this class is open on Feb. 7 and 12. A class that focuses on language arts and social studies meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 11:15 a.m. Enrollment for this class is open on Feb. 6 and 8.

HSE classes that will cover math and science preparation will also be held in Sycamore at Sycamore High School, 555 Spartan Trail (entrance W2, room T-160), on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. Students may enroll at the class site on Feb. 6 and 8.

HSE classes that cover language arts and social studies will be held at Kishwaukee College on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. Students may enroll at the class site on Feb. 7 and 12.

There is a Spanish HSE math and science preparation class (taught in Spanish only) at Kishwaukee College in room C1203 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. There is limited childcare available for children from birth to 10 years old whose parents are attending the Spanish HSE preparation classes at Kish. Students may enroll at the class site on Feb. 6 and 8.

The Spanish HSE language arts and social studies class meets in Rochelle at the Rochelle United Methodist Church, 709 Fourth Ave. (second floor of Hicks Hall) on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. Students may enroll at this class site on Feb. 7 and 12.

There are English as a Second Languages classes at the beginning/low intermediate level in Rochelle at the Rochelle United Methodist Church, 709 Fourth Ave. (second floor of Hicks Hall) on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. Students may enroll in the beginning/low intermediate classes at this class site on Feb. 7 and 12.

There are English as a Second Languages classes at the beginning/low intermediate level in DeKalb at Christ Community Center, 316 N. Sixth St., on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. There is limited childcare available for children from birth to 10 years old whose parents are attending the ESL classes at this class site. Students may enroll in the beginning/low intermediate classes at this class site on Feb. 7 and 12.

There are English as a Second Languages classes at the beginning/low intermediate level at Kish College on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 11:15 a.m. in Room C1251. There is limited childcare available for children from birth to 10 years old whose parents are attending the ESL. Students may enroll at the class site on Feb. 6 and 8.

There is a class for high intermediate/advanced level at Kishwaukee College on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 11:15 a.m. in room C1207 and another class in the evening from 6 to 8:15 p.m. in rooms C1207 and C1209. There is limited childcare available for children from birth to 10 years old whose parents are attending the ESL classes at Kish. Students may enroll in the intermediate/advanced classes at the class site on Feb. 6 and 8.
