DeKALB – Kate Noreiko, DeKalb’s 5th Ward alderwoman, will be hosting an informational meeting Thursday with DeKalb Police Chief Gene Lowery to discuss the second phase of the Safe Streets Initiative.
The meeting will be at 5 p.m. in the second-floor community room of the DeKalb Police Department, 700 W. Lincoln Highway.
The Safe Streets Initiative is designed to reduce crime in and around the Annie Glidden North neighborhood. The first phase, which was approved by the City Council in December, would not allow parking between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. on Russell Road and Crane Drive and set resident-permitted parking on an adjacent section of the neighborhood. The second phase would implement additional parking restrictions in certain areas of the city, including the Ellwood District of the 5th Ward. Residents living in this area are encouraged to attend the meeting.
Noreiko and Lowery will answer questions and accept feedback on the initiative or any other issues affecting DeKalb residents.
