SYCAMORE – For the first time in more than a decade, the Sycamore Fire Department had to respond to a holiday-related fire, which caused no injuries and minimal property damage, according to a news release from the department.
The DeKalb and Sycamore fire departments track holiday fires by placing a wreath with red light bulbs on each of their stations to represent the number of incidents that took place. If a fire occurs between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, one of the bulbs on the wreath is changed from red to white.
Although there were no other holiday-related fires, there were 262 requests for emergency service, 184 of which were emergency medical service responses and 13 of which were vehicle crash responses.
DeKalb Fire Chief Eric Hicks said DeKalb had no holiday-rated fires this year.
