Congregation Beth Shalom celebrates Hanukkah

Hanukkah begins this year on the evening of Tuesday, Dec. 12. To get ready for the holiday, Congregation Beth Shalom’s Hanukkah Shop will be open Sunday, Dec. 10, from 3 to 5 p.m.

Everyone is invited to stop by for all holiday needs, including candles, menorahs, dreidels, gelt, wrapping paper and gift items. General Judaic items are also available, as well as CDs of Koleynu, the congregation’s choir.

The congregation is located at 820 Russell Road in DeKalb.

Congregation members, their guests, and all prospective members will celebrate together with a Hanukkah party later that day at 5 p.m. This will be a dairy potluck dinner, at which traditional latkes will be served.

There will be singing and the second annual Great Menorah Contest, in which contestants build menorahs out of the most unusual materials they can find. In addition, Rabbi Barb Moskow will lead activities for children beginning at 4 p.m.
