First Congregational United Church of Christ in DeKalb will present its 58th annual Carols and Candles service at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10.
This traditional service of lessons and carols will feature the Chancel Choir, directed by Kate Swope, with organist Travis Erikson and other instrumentalists. There will be scripture readings related to the prophecy and birth of the Christ child, selections by the Chancel Choir, hymn-singing of traditional carols and the lighting of individual candles during the singing of “Silent Night,” as has been done every year since 1959.
The church’s annual Christmas Tea will follow at 8:15 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Admission is free and all are welcome.
First Congregational is handicap accessible, and is located at 615 N. First St. in DeKalb, next to the Ellwood House.
