Family Service Agency hosts senior programming

The Family Service Agency will offer a series of programs in October for local seniors.

Senior Safe will be from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at Club 55, 330 Grove St. in DeKalb. Hero Martial Arts’ Tom Scott and DeKalb County TRIAD will host the senior safety workshop. Education will include a senior self-defense class, information on senior scams and an active Shooter presentation. Senior self-defense class registration fee is $15. The American Association of Retired Persons will offer a two-day driver safety course on Oct. 23 and 24 from 1 to 5 p.m.

Finally, over the next several months a new initiative, Life’s Next Chapter – Life After Retirement, will offer a series of free classes aimed at addressing life changes. Local experts will present on topics such as: How to Navigate through the Medicare Maze, Reverse Mortgages, Local Resources to help with Financial Shortfalls, Safeguarding your Savings, Long-term care: Who Will Pay, Seniors and Property Tax, and Senior Scams.

Beginning Oct. 24, Life’s Next Chapter courses will take place the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
