DeKALB – Residents should get their rakes ready, as the city’s annual leaf collection program will begin Oct. 16.
Residents should rake their leaves in a narrow row parallel to the backside of the curb. Piles should not contain sticks, rocks or other debris. Leaves should not be raked into the street.
Crews will start on the south half of DeKalb and continue north of Lincoln Highway, but schedules may change based on weather conditions. To ensure leaf pickup, the Public Works Department is recommending off-street parking throughout the season.
Waste Management services also will pick up leaves on the curbside during regularly scheduled garbage days. However, they must be placed in biodegradable yard-waste bags or in open garbage cans.
Landscape waste dumpsters also will be in place through Nov. 30 at the southeast corner of North Seventh Street and Oak Street, Fire Station 2 at 1154 S. Seventh St. and city garden plots on 950 W. Dresser Road. Plastic bags are prohibited from being put in the dumpsters.
