First National Bank has announced the winners for the 2017 Community First Awards. The awards recognize and celebrate nonprofit organizations that contribute to the success of communities across the bank’s service area.
Open Door Rehabilitation Center was selected as the winner for the Illinois region and will receive a $10,000 cash donation. The mission of the Open Door Rehabilitation Center is to provide unrivaled, high-quality, person-driven services to adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. They plan to use the funds to provide financial assistance to bridge the gap in unmet minimum life necessities for their clients.
Court Appointed Special Advocates Kendall County was selected as the runner-up for the Illinois region and will receive a $2,500 cash donation. CASA Kendall County provides a powerful and consistent voice in court for the innocent child victims of abuse and neglect. They plan to use the funds to recruit, screen and train volunteers that will provide a powerful voice for children who suffered abuse and neglect. Due to a recent increase in cases, CASA Kendall County is in critical need of more highly-trained volunteers.
Nominations for the 2017 Community First Awards were open to the public in July. The nominations were then evaluated based on the nonprofit’s impact on community needs and positive presence in the community. The finalists were presented for a public vote between Aug. 28 and Sept. 8.
