DeKALB – In order to minimize the threat of identity theft, the Illinois Community Credit Union is partnering with Family Service Agency to host a Community Shred Day on Sept. 16 for residents to discard any documents with personal information.
This free event will be from 9 a.m. to noon at the Family Service Agency parking lot at 14 Health Service Drive in DeKalb.
Participants are encouraged to bring a maximum of two boxes of clean paper of any color and any size – blueprints, newspapers, magazines, brochures, window envelopes, photographs and file folders. It is not necessary to remove staples, paper clips, rubber bands or small binders.
According to the TransUnion website, nearly 10 million Americans are victims of identity theft each year.
