DeKalb County Health Department to collect hazardous waste products

SYCAMORE – Residents will have an opportunity to discard their household hazardous waste products during a one-day collection effort hosted by the DeKalb County Health Department.

The collection will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the DeKalb County Farm Bureau at 1350 W. Prairie Drive in Sycamore.

Accepted items include oil-based paints, thinners, chemical cleaners, unwanted pharmaceuticals, mercury and mercury-containing items, antifreeze, motor oil, gasoline, kerosene, weed killers, insecticides, pesticides, adhesives, hobby chemicals, automotive batteries, and fluorescent and other high-intensity discharge lamps.

Items that will not be accepted include explosives, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, biohazard waste, controlled substances, agricultural chemicals, propane tanks, medical syringes and all business wastes.
