Those interested in starting to run or getting back into running can join the Northern Illinois Trail Runners Organization in the eight-week Walk to Run 101 program training for a 5K run.
The program starts April 17 with walking and jogging and finishes June 7 with an optional 5K. Participants will follow a training schedule that includes two weekly training runs facilitated by NITRO volunteers and an optional Saturday run with NITRO members' regularly scheduled runs.
Participants can track their training progress, receive training tips, meet others interested in running, and enjoy the accomplishment of finishing a 5K run.
Registration for this program is $30, which includes membership to the running club through the end of the year and a club stocking cap.
This year the club is moving the program to Rotary Park in DeKalb where the paved trail around the fishing lake will make for a consistent course for participants to map their progress.
