DeKalb County Community Foundation announced a Community Needs Grant of $23,500 to Children’s Learning Center in December toward the purchase of a school bus. The cost of the new bus is about $57,000. Crowning two years of fundraising, this major grant ensures delivery of a new bus early in 2015.

Children’s Learning Center (CLC) operates its own yellow school bus on eight daily routes between home and day care and between day care and school, and as part of the curriculum in frequent field trips. CLC’s existing 26-passenger school bus is 11 years old. It travels about 45 miles and transports up to 40 enrolled children on a typical school day. CLC cooperates with The Growing Place, another DeKalb not for profit child care program, on before- and after-school transportation.
