WCPT FM the new home of Huskie football

DeKALB – Northern Illinois University football has a new local radio home as every 2014 Huskie football game, as well as the weekly coaches’ radio show, will be heard on WCPT 92.5 FM in DeKalb, NIU Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics Sean T. Frazier and Learfield Sports, the Huskies’ new multimedia rights holder, announced.

WCPT FM 92.5 is a Class B 20,000-watt station with a primary coverage area that blankets all of DeKalb County with reach to Aurora, Elgin and Rockford, and can be heard in a radius that stretches as far as Joliet, Dixon, Morris, Ottawa and Crystal Lake. WCPT is part of “Chicago’s Progressive Talk” family of stations and plays 24 hours a day.

Frazier said he was pleased to add a station with the strength of signal offered by WCPT to listeners across DeKalb County and beyond. 

“This has been a long process and a very thorough search to find our local radio home, but I really believe we have come out of it with the best available radio coverage for Huskie fans,” Frazier said. “WCPT provides us with a great signal, a strong reach during the day and at night, and a partner that is excited to be the new home of NIU Football.”

In addition to complete coverage of every NIU Football game broadcast, beginning 30 minutes before kickoff with the pregame show and continuing through the postgame wrap-up, WCPT will carry all 14 “Inside Huskie Football with Rod Carey” radio shows. The live, weekly, one-hour program is hosted by Voice of the Huskies Bill Baker and includes a lengthy chat with the Huskies’ head coach, live interviews with NIU players and visits from other NIU head coaches and athletic department administrators. 

“Inside Huskie Football” can be heard from 7 to 8 p.m. every Monday through Nov. 3. There will be a a show on Thursday, Nov. 13, before returning to Mondays on Nov. 24 and Dec. 1.

NIU Football game broadcasts began Aug. 28. Baker returned for his 35th season as the Voice of the Huskies and is joined in the booth by 29-year color analyst Mark Lindo and second-year sideline reporter Andy Garcia.

The NIU Football program has been a perennial powerhouse, and this is a great opportunity for WCPT FM to carry all of the games and ‘Inside Huskie Football with Rod Carey.’”

NIU’s football radio coverage for 2014 now includes WCPT FM 92.5 and AM 560 The Answer (WIND) in Chicago.
