Aviation students receive scholarships

DeKALB – The Chicago Area Business Aviation Association (CABAA) just announced that scholarships in the amount of $4,000 each went to two local aviation students.

Dana Atkins of Sycamore is pursuing a degree in aviation management at the University of North Dakota and aspires to work in the aviation industry in an international capacity. Atkins completed two years at the Kishwaukee Education Consortiumaviation program at DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport before moving on to college.

Jeff Flanigan of DeKalb, who recently graduated from Lewis University to become an air traffic controller, was accepted at the Federal Aviation Administration Air Traffic Control Academy in Oklahoma City. Flanigan, also a graduate of KEC’s aviation program, is employed by the City of DeKalb, refueling aircraft at the DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport.
