SYCAMORE — A 16-year-old Sycamore High School student who won an Illinois State Fair contest two years in a row for raising chickens is walking away with more money this year.
Bailey Hunt's three chickens sold for $5,900 at an auction, more than the $3,200 he received at the grand champion auction last year.
Those who purchased Hunt's chickens are Marty Davis of McDonald's in Peoria and Central Illinois, State Rep. Robert Pritchard, National Bank and Trust of Sycamore, Elburn Coop, Conserv FS, Complete Feed and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hawk.
Also during the Governor’s Sale of Champions auction, AT&T, Monsanto and DeKalb Asgrow combined to bid a record-breaking $100,000 for the grand champion crossbred steer of Shaelye Varner, a 12-year-old from Morris. It was the first time an animal in the sale was purchased for a six-figure dollar amount, according to a news release.
