The Alpha Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International awarded a $2,000 scholarship to Northern Illinois University junior Dana Timmerman, who plans to teach after obtaining her degree.

The Alpha Chapter established its Recruitment Grant Foundation in Education Inc. in 1984. Since then, more than $32,000 has been awarded to 40 NIU students. The awards have grown from $100 the first year to $2,000 today. The foundation raises funds through personal donations, a silent auction, memorial gifts, fundraisers and more.

Delta Kappa Gamma is an honorary society of women with experience in teach or education who are dedicated to carrying out the purpose of the society.
