SYCAMORE – The Sycamore Fire Department has received a federal grant of $384,750 for the purchase of a new fire engine through the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant program.

The grant will be used to buy a replacement structural fire/rescue engine. The new vehicle will serve as a front-line engine, with the current front-line engine moving to reserve status to replace an engine that is more than 35 years old.

The grant covers approximately 95 percent of the $405,000 total estimated cost of the replacement engine. The city of Sycamore will be responsible for the remaining $20,250.

The fire department plans to finalize vehicle bid specifications in the near future and will advertise for bids or requests for proposals. Once a contract is awarded by the Sycamore city council, it will take at least nine months before the department receives the engine.
