Kevin McIntyre was recently awarded the rank of Eagle, the highest rank in scouting, at a court of honor.

McIntyre is a member of Genoa Troop 71 sponsored by the Masonic Temple. His parents are Jim and Carolyn McIntyre of Genoa.

He earned the required six scouting ranks and 21 merit badges to achieve the rank of Eagle. As senior patrol leader, he completed his leadership and service requirements. He also served as a merit badge counselor at Camp Decorah in Wisconsin for the past four years.

Eagle candidates also have to identify, organize and complete a major service project benefiting a local community organization. McIntyre worked with Walcamp to build five large firewood boxes. He designed the boxes, obtained the material, mostly from donations, and organized the volunteers to build them.

His final requirement was to pass an Eagle Board of Review.

McIntyre recently graduated from Genoa-Kingston High School, where he played football all four years and was recognized and honored his junior year as all-conference defensive lineman. He also participated in track throwing the shot put and discus.

He plans to continue his education this fall by pursuing a degree in forestry at Southern Illinois University.
