Clinic teaches women and children to use a shotgun

SHABBONA – A wingshooting clinic for beginning shooters with shotguns will be held at Shabbona Lake State Park Aug. 16 and 17.

On Saturday, Aug. 16, the clinic will be for boys and girls ages 10 to 15. On Sunday, Aug. 17, the clinic will be for girls 10 to 18 and adult women. The clinic runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days and includes lunch. Auto-loading 28-gauge shotguns are provided.

Each day begins with a classroom session on safe firearm handling, led by an Illinois Department of Natural Resources volunteer hunter education instructor. The clinic is hands-on and includes extensive life fire at clay targets under the supervision of certified instructors.

The cost is $10 and reservations are required. To make a reservation, call 815-758-2773 and ask for Richard Carlson. Space is limited to 24 students each day.
